ELIANT - European Alliance of Initiatives for Applied Anthroposophy - is working to ensure, in view of growing European integration, that legislative framework conditions are created to safeguard the various aspects of applied anthroposophy, including education, nutrition and agriculture, special needs (curative) education and social therapy, medicine and therapeutic disciplines. It urges the need for policies and a European legislative framework which give people real diversity of choice when making decisions that affect quality of life and cultural diversity.

ELIANT currently constructs its platform as a non-government organization (NGO) and looks forward to any synergy with other organizations and institutions in applying goal setting. Each supporting signature is a gain for the action and is an expressive engagement governed by civil law. ELIANT supports and furthers all efforts to enable a direct participation of the European citizen in the contractual foundation of the European Union. The above-mentioned “popular initiative” in the constitution layout and the Lisbon Treaty should be put into effect as quickly as possibly. This can also occur regardless of the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. The European Union, today, can no longer be fashioned over the heads of their citizens.

The Alliance describes and publicises its aims and mode of work in a Charter. Please support the Charter’s aims with your signature

Fraudulent email circulating about the ELIANT campaign

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that a chain letter is currently circulating which makes a false connection between the Codex Alimentarius and the ELIANT campaign.

We have therefore published the following denial: http://www.eliant.eu/new/lang/en/disclaimer/

Why does the anthroposophic movement need the European ELIANT Alliance?

Why is this Alliance collecting one million signatures (ELIANT campaign)?

Aim of the petition
In our current work at the European level, it has been shown that the anthroposophic individual unions are only rapidly shoved aside as insignificant fringe groups. With the ELIANT alliances, the anthroposophic initiatives construct a common European platform in order to participate in the socio-political discussion in the EU as a European non-government organization (NGO) with an anthroposophic viewpoint and to broach anthroposophic concerns and visions to the European decision-makers. Therefore, the goal remains to improve the enforcement of these concerns. The ELIANT alliance is an investment for the future.

The present signature collection for ELIANT is a first common action to lend it the essential quantitative support. The wide distribution of the signature collection already elucidates that our initiative causes a stir among many thousands of people all over Europe and overseas. It is already shown that ELIANT not only support the cause of interests of a minor insignificant fringe group.

The number of signatures entered rather emphasises that our employment are obvious for better quality of living, alternatives and the plurality in the interests of many people in Europe and under no circumstances only represents an exclusively anthroposophic interest. The popularity for the ELIANT movement is evidence of the necessity and capacity of the alliance for action.

The signature collection and the public campaign in the EU
For eight years until now, the European Union contends for a political constitution. In the preparation of a “Constitution Treaty” for the European Union has pressed for the convention convoked for this purpose, elements of participating democracies, i.e. direct popular participation in the policy decision-making are to be incorporated as innovations in such a treaty. These deliberations, which predominantly predict the instrument of a popular initiative under given conditions, have found access to the “Lisbon Treaty”), which the heads of state and government have signed in December 2007 as the new founding treaty. However, whether this “Lisbon Treaty” actually becomes a new legal basis for the work of the European Union and its institutions, today, it will first show this in the next few weeks and months following its rejection by a referendum in Ireland.
For ELIANT, the extension of popular participation in the European policy remains as an indispensable demand in the further process of the European integration. Therefore, ELIANT, together with many other actors in the Civil Society, advocates that at least the instrument of the popular initiative in the contractual redevelopment is not only acquired, but also intensified. Such an instrument can also be introduced if it does not soon lead to a new fundamental contract for the Union.
The pathway provided in the contract document would be a significant step forward: One million citizens of the European Union, with their signature, should receive the right to be able to grasp the initiative and arrange for the commission, to present to the European law-makers (i.e. the European Parliament and European Council) appropriate suggestions on the themes of decision-making required according to their concept of a European legal regulation. The ELIANT action and their signature collection are orientated towards the requirements of this instrument!
It is also indispensable for ELIANT to retain the demand of providing the final binding legal effect to the European legislative charter. The ELIANT Charter completely and knowingly refers to the plurality guaranteed in the European legislative charter. This remains an indispensable factor for Europe.

Conclusion
The ELIANT platform existing by means of the current signature collection strengthens the alliance bearer which therewith will be able to position themselves more solidly against the European decision-makers. Furthermore the platform will strengthen and improve the capacity for enforcement of the anthroposophic interests. ELIANT will accompany its activity with a corresponding public relations matter and develop a broad collaboration with other partner organisations of the Civil Society, which pursue similar basic concerns.

 1 Million Signatures – why?

The goal of 1 million signatures seems very ambitious. The signatures so far collected (see counter above) are quite a respectable number! Why then do we need one million? read the answer here

ELIANT distance from the Scandinavian vitamins email scare campaign

The ELIANT signature campaign has nothing to do with the chain mails that went out to 1000s of Scandinavian consumers and could do nothing about its petition being added to the emails by unknown parties.
We completely disassociate ourselves from this kind of fear-mongering.
We distance ourselves from the mail because of the incorrect content and because it wrongly connects the campaign of ELIANT with a protest against vitamin/mineral restrictions.
